Sander Spek (Waalwijk, The Netherlands 1980) is a researcher at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Free University of Brussels) since May 2009.
Initially he worked for CEMESO, but currently he is employed by IBBT-SMIT. Previously, he was a researcher at the department of Infonomics and New Media (previously called EC/DC) of Zuyd University. His recent projects involved changes in journalism and publishing as a result of decreasing circulations and the rise of new media and new players. At IBBT-SMIT, he also works in different fields, e.g. movie production and mobile learning, always from a business-modelling perspective.
Sander is still working on his ph.d. thesis at Maastricht University, that deals with changing, decentralised publishing concepts. Think, for instance, of Wikipedia that changed the ways in which encyclopedias are normally being produced. And embedded publishers who publish their own source-generated content without the interference of traditional media.
Sander studied Information Management in Tilburg. In his heart, he is still a nostalgic product of the Dutch Brabant region, although he lived for over six years in Maastricht and is currently enjoying living in the capital of Belgium. In his free time, he is interested in photography, typography and design, indie music and Germany.
Sander also blogs in Dutch about football (culture) at Sinds De Neve.
N.B. If you were looking for Alexander Spek or Alexander Wilhelmus Adrianus Spek: congratulations, you found him. Sander is a short form of Alexander, and the full name is only for official occassions.
